The solution of challenge: Brainstorming!

After a couple of meetings and first playbook meeting, we still continue to work on our project. We found a great start point: “What is good/bad tyre?” As an answer to this question, we determined which properties affect the quality of tyres? If we figured them out, we could have collected more data about them by using sensors and the lifetime of the tyre can be improved. Based on these idea, we determined these kind  of properties;

  • too low/too high air pressure
  • tyre slip
  • tyre thread thickness
  • over heated tyre
  • punctured tyre by metal or glass
  • change in tyre footprint

We think  of using optical, thermal and high tech sensors for the tyre. Sensor means energy. Required energy for sensor should be provided more economical, sustainable and environmental friendly way. This was technical point of view.

Also, customer point of view should be taken into account. There are two main customers who want  more detailed technical info about situation  of their tyre and who do not want (basic info is enough). Now, the critical question is coming; “How can we introduce the tyre info for both customer type in same app?”Now, we have some risks related information presenting and gathering.

Risks related information presenting;

People usually get irritated if faceless system tells them directly to do something, for example to slow down

  • This can be solved by changing guidelines to suggestions – people are more willing to follow soft guidance
  • Guidelines that are provided during driving (more direct) and after driving (supported with data, argumented etc. more detailed) should be formed in different way

Risks related information gathering;

  • How system recognizes that sensors are in good condition and does not present corrupted data to customer?
  • How broken sensors could be changed to new ones or otherwise ensure that the value to customer could be delivered?

As you understood, we have lots of questions! 😦 What is the solution? : BRAINSTORMING!!!!

5 key points related the project were decided. Each of them was written on different papers. Pick your inspiring play card, write down your first innovative idea and you have a minute! Thadaaa! Time is up, switch the papers!

It was fruitful brainstorming and now we have stunning ideas!!

Now, we are out! Needs more work!:)

Week 41- #1 Jamming!

Finally, we jammed! It was quite inspiring, intensive and included lots of fun. Every teams were trying to present their solution ideas for their projects in an attractive and convincing way. You can think the jam as the festival of idea as well! 🙂

Jam includes lots of valuable and interesting workshops like “How to tell a story”, “Functional and Value”, “Sherlock Holmes”, “Sh*tty Prototype” and “End User”. You can see our sh*tty prototype below. We really enjoyed making this prototype.

It is really sh*tty, right? 😀

The second most great part for us was to decide our end group for our project. We chose a person and wrote a story about our end user. Let’s meet Niina!

Finally, I have to admit that the best and delicious part of the day was absolutely lunch and snacks! They know how you can think in full of charge.:)

I tried to introduce Jamming but it is not enough! You should experience it and you will never forget!

See you in next post and stay tunned!

Value Creation Workshop!

In the middle of the week, we had value creation workshop! It was quite interesting workshop. The most excited part of the workshop was “1 min. pitch”. It sounds interesting and difficult. Now, you are thinking how it is possible, what you can explain in a minute. The aim of this was to explain problem statement of your project, solution of the problem, values ( why your product is important and valuable for customers). Let see how it was going!

One minute pitch!

See you in first jam!

Ideas.. More Ideas.. More & More Ideas..

The start-up of project has given almost 3 weeks ago and it continues in a full swing. At this stage, we are trying to produce ideas as much as possible. The biggest challenge in this stage is to examine and decide whether the idea is more applicable for car, itself or tyres. Therefore, we are trying build a framework to not go out of the main point and meanwhile we never ever restrict our ideas and creativity. For this purpose, we asked some questions to ourselves and they are;

  • How to collect data?
  • How to use the data to change business to service oriented?
  • How to report the data to the user?
  • What kind of data can be collected?
  • What kind of sensors can be used and where can they be placed?

By starting from these questions, there are some couple of ideas for ‘’ Let tyre speak’’ so far;

  • Show the data on the car screen and/or mobile app (it should be web based.)
  • Tyres that can change themselves according to the weather and road conditions
  • Alerting driver on bad weather conditions
  • Extending tyre studs on winter conditions (automatic)
  • Mobile application MyTyres to track tyre information – service customers
  • Improve tyre friction when breaking
  • Self injection of air into the tyres
  • Sense if the tyre is damaged
  • How many rotations has the tyre taken
  • Collect data from a large variety of sensors to a common platform

…….

After all, ideas have discussed with Teemu (project stakeholder from Nokian Tyres) from different aspects. As a beginning, we are going great and he has encouraged us like ‘’Keep forward, Think more out of box, Remove your barriers & limitations, Release your thoughts, Enjoy your creativity! “

That’s all for now!

See you next post! 🙂
